Hot Spring (“Onsen”) |
Atami is one of Japan’s most prestigious, historical hot spring (“onsen”) resort town. Hot springs (“onsen”) is considered to be one of the most popular travel attractions in Japan. A typical hot spring experience brings about ultimate in relaxation. At Atami Seaside Spa & Resort, we provide very large bathing areas for both men and women, so that you can enjoy great relaxation and healing. Large open-air bathing rooms with splendid views are also provided. The hot spring water of our hot spring flows directly from an underground geyser, right next door!
There are three types of communal hot spring bath “tubs” for both men and women -- a huge indoor bathing space made of granite stone (“dai-yokujo”), outside pot bathtub (“tsubo-buro”), and outside bath space with splendid view (“roten-buro”). Guests can take baths anytime from 6:00 to 10:30, and from 15:00 to 24:00.
We also provide a free relaxation space next to the bathing room. The space has massage machines and relaxation seats, where you can freely rest after a wonderful “onsen” experience. Guests can use this space anytime from 6:00 to 10:30, and from 15:00 to 24:00.

Medicinal Properties |
Japanese hot spring baths have been scientifically proven for their medicinal effects on chemical, mental, and physical aspects:
1) The minerals (a good balance of sodium chloride and calcium sulfate) in the hot springs readily infiltrate into the bodies, bringing about various healthy results. The hot spring waters of “onsen” have been officially certified to have medicinal effects on treatment of ailments, such as neuralgia, muscle aches, arthritis, stiff shoulders, motor paralysis, stiff joints, bruises, sprains, chronic alimentary diseases, hemorrhoids, poor circulation, convalescent stages, recovery from fatigue, promotion of health, cuts, burns, chronic dermatitis, physically weak children and chronic female disorders.
2) The psychological effect is also great. Experiencing a “different” environment is known to bring about relaxation and stress-relief.
3) The direct physical aspects of hot springs also work towards people’s better health. The warmth of the hot water will induce healthy metabolic circulation and balance of the autonomic nervous system. Water pressure will give you effects similar to massages and fitness work-outs. The floating effect of water gives relaxation to liberated bodies and helps in rehabilitation. |

How to Take a Japanese-Style Bath |

|
Although each guestroom comes with its individual bath, taking the Japanese-style communal hot spring (“onsen”) bath is definitely a great must-do.
Taking the bath in Japanese style is simple! Bring with you the small towel and bath towel that will be provided in the guest room. Undress in the dressing room and place your clothes in the basket/shelf provided. Then enter the bathing area with the small towel.
You are only to go inside the bath tub after you washed your body first (using the small towel) in the washing/shower area next to the bathing tubs. Since people rinse their bodies in hot spring tubs, washing beforehand using shower and soap helps keep the water in the bath tub clean. The rinsing and washing of your body with hot water also acclimatizes you to the actual temperature of the bath tubs. Also, do not jump into the water like diving into a swimming pool.
Please do not put the small towel into the bath tub water. The towel is mainly for washing your body. Most people place the towel on their head. And remember not to use any soap or shampoo or other skin cleansers in the bath tubs. |
